Budgie Echo

Budgie Echo is a desktop voice-to-text application for macOS and Windows. Use a configurable shortcut to record, transcribe with a selected local model, and copy or paste the result into the application where you are working.

Voice to local text

Echo's active transcription surface uses downloaded local speech-to-text models. You choose and download a model in Settings → Transcription, then select it before recording. The recording shortcut supports toggle and push-to-talk activation.

During a recording, Echo shows elapsed time and, when available, a live transcript. Stopping the recording moves the popup through processing to a final result. The final text can be copied, closed, or passed to an available workflow.

Inspectable workflows

A workflow is an explicit sequence of actions applied to text. Echo exposes each workflow's steps, inputs, outputs, and permissions so you can review what it will do before relying on it. Workflows can transform text, copy or paste results, call approved services, or perform other documented actions.

1. Follow Getting Started to install, sign in, grant permissions, and select a local model.
2. Learn the Recording modes and shortcuts.
3. Use the Popup to record and handle the result.
4. Have long text read aloud with Reader, and dictate straight into conversations with the Assistant.
5. Review History before importing or merging recordings.
6. Keep the Keyboard Shortcuts reference nearby while configuring Echo.
